Comments:
Hi Susan :) I hike on (in?) an alluvial fan frequently at The Living Desert (Palm Desert/Indian Wells; www.livingdesert.org) The fan shape exists because water has pushed out of a canyon large boulders/rocks (and smaller earth debris) spreading out across the desert floor. At the Living Desert, two Alluvial fans join together and create a "bajada", a Spanish word meaning slope; the j behaves as an h. You may want to check the local history museum site:www.coachellavalleymuseum.org
See you all tomorrow!
